Introduction

Industry Defined Problem (IDP) is one of the most anticipated events of Vortex: The Chemfest of Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly known as UDCT). It combines various disciplines in its quest to give the most industry friendly solution making it only one of its kind. The sheer scale at which this event is conducted is noteworthy. Having a proud lineage of YRC and YICC, IDP is the flagship event of Vortex.

  • The problems are provided directly by the leaders of the industry and represent the actual issues faced by the companies. The participants are required to use their technical knowhow to come up with innovative and effective solutions which are then analysed by expert industry professionals. Since the IDP is approached by various participants the company gets various viewpoints. IDP thus provides an economical alternative for the industries as the problems would require astronomical investments coupled with higher risks in practice. Our past collaborations include those with Reliance, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL), United Phosphorous Limited (UPL), DOW, Lakme and L'oreal to name a few.

The prize money of Rs.50, 000 per problem ensures that the best and the brightest participants come from all across India.
